What are some reasons to become an art collector? When you collect art you become a patron of the arts, and your money goes toward supporting the work of artists who spend their creative energy creating great things which enhance life as we know it.

The Benefits of Being a Collector

You don’t have to be “rich” to be an art collector. You can buy a couple pieces or many, at various price points, and start a collection for your home or office. When you have various pieces of art assembled in one place, such as your office, you show off what you love! Then, when people visit, you have something to talk about– and art is great at starting conversations. You might discover that the people in the room with you are also fans of a certain athlete or university. This can lead to lifelong friendships.

Collecting art can be done just for the love of art! But people also collect artistic pieces because they often go up  in value over time. Say, for instance, you buy a sculpture for $2,000 in 2021. What if it’s worth $4,000 or $10,000 to another collector in a couple years? That’s the case for a lot of art! Since there are a lot of “one of a kind” pieces in the art world, certain pieces may be worth a lot of money since no one else in the world “has one like it.”

There are many different pieces of art you can collect, from figurines to limited edition prints. In your mind, come up with a budget of what you’d like to spend on art to enhance your life. Then start spending some money and collecting a couple pieces. Pretty soon, people will recognize that you love a particular thing, such as the University of Kansas, and they’ll start gifting you with more pieces to add to your collection. It’s not unusual to dedicate a whole room in your house or building to just display the beautiful works of art you’ve collected over the years!

Broaden your horizons, invest in art, discover new artists before they’re famous, and/or fill your home with unusual or extraordinary pieces. Framewoods Gallery can help you get started with your University of Kansas/Jayhawks art collection.
